Diplomado y Maestría en Informática Biomédica 2014

Diplomado 2014 / Primer Ciclo de la Maestría 2014

En el año 2014 se desarrolló la cuarta versión del Diplomado en Informática Biomédica en Salud Global, del 13 de Enero al 15 de Marzo.

En el programa contamos con la participación de 13 alumnos en la mención de Informática en Salud los cuales compartieron 8 semanas de modalidad virtual y 1 semana de repaso presencial en las áreas más importantes de la Informática Biomédica.

Entre nuestros alumnos tuvimos a profesionales de áreas diversas como Medicina (9), Obstetricia (1) Ingeniería (1), Farmacia (1) y Promoción de la salud (1). Uno de nuestros alumnos, Allan Bejarano nos visitó desde San José, Costa Rica.

Como trabajo final del Diplomado y del primer ciclo de la Maestría, los alumnos presentaron una propuesta de Investigación en Informática Biomédica, las cuales fueron evaluadas por el Comité Científico de QUIPU con profesionales tanto nacionales como extranjeros para recibir financiamiento.

Esta versión del Diplomado 2014 fue parte del primer ciclo de la Maestría en Informática Biomédica en Salud Global donde 6 alumnos continuaron el programa.


Propuesta: UCINET: Electronic health record to improve decision-making in the pediatric intensive care unit

Resumen:

Congenital heart disease are a major health problem in our country. The National Institute Cardiovascular, is the only national referral center of the EsSalud for the management such disease. The congenital heart disease benefit from surgical intervention and then these are admitted en the intensive care unit, a average of 350 to 400 surgeries per year.

The implementation of the eletronic medical record has had a positive impact on the improvement of systems of information and decision-making, being an essential tool in administrative management, resource allocation, epidemiological research.

Intensive care unit of INCOR, has a fully manual medical record, administrative staff makes the electronic record with administratives purposes. They use the medical history, operative record, with all limitations of accuracy, correctness of the data; influenced both by the same medical history and non-objectivity of the administrative staff.

Information systems are important for clinical databases with accurate and complete information, which will serve to understand the clinical epidemiological characteristics of the evolution of our patients and to make decisions that have an impact on the care of patients.

Therefore considered important to implement an electronic medical record in the intensive care unit, and assess the impact on making decisions, to compare the quality of the electronic record and assess the degree of usability and satisfaction.

 

Propuesta: Diagnostic validity of an image of visual inspection with acetic acid received by MMS for screening in cervical malignancies

Resumen:

Cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality in developing countries . The use of Papanicoloau as screening method has not been successful in these countries. Visual inspection with acetic acid is an inexpensive and easily implemented alternative for screening of cervical cancer in remote places of difficult access and high risk of loss of patient follow-up. Our proposal is a pilot study to assess the validity of the photographic inspection with acetic acid taken with a mobile phone and sent by multimedia message for remote examination by a gynecologic oncologist. 

Women who come to preventorium Service Gynecologic Oncology and Breast of Archbishop Loayza National Hospital for screening for cervical cancer, will be invited to participate in the study to complete 556 patients, with a not probabilistic sampling for convenience, all have screening with conventional Pap smear, also visual inspection with acetic acid was performed, the digital picture will be taken with the camera phone and then be referred colposcopy.

A platform for digital for making standardize the focal distance of 15 cm photograph of the cervix will be established. The specialist will receive a multimedia message on a cell and deliver its diagnosis, which will be compared with the diagnosis of VIA naked eye performed by a midwife, to assess the consistency of the test and colposcopy, which is the gold standard, for calculate the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value.

 

Propuesta: Designing text messages (SMS) to promote the health of women living with breast cancer in the project "Women Who Save Lives", Costa Rica.

Resumen:

The project "Women Who Save Lives" is led by Academy articulating joint actions with four NGOs and four hospitals to carry out the patient navigation, occupation effort is an accompaniment in transit through the Costa Rican health system solidarity, compulsory and universal coverage. The aim of this support is to reduce waiting times and barriers that arise in the care of women in Costa Rica through the articulation and commitment of key stakeholders Non Governmental , Hospital and University Organization.

The patient navigator or companions are family members of patients or survivors of breast cancer who received training from "Women Who Save Lives" of between 6 and 12 months.

Navigation arises from the original idea navigation American Cancer Society and currently has 140 patients followed however this figure would increase exponentially from the second half with the addition in implementing national hospitals.

Arises in this qualitative study design text messages (SMS) to promote the health of women living with breast cancer in the context of the project " Women Who Save Lives " for the stage (treatment, rehabilitation and palliative) care through focus groups for patients , health care providers and leaders of patient organizations.

It would be developing a pilot plan with at least one participating hospital of navigation project, as well as an estimated 30 patients with breast cancer.

 

Proyecto: Learning improvement through online recorded lectures

Resumen:

In clinical courses, it’s an inconvenient that practices developed in the day don’t match with the content of lectures. This situation may disrupt the learning process, with no creation of relationship between the acquired ideas of both moments. For this, videos are an alternative that adapts to the learning style of the student.

This study aims to evaluate the effectivity of online recorded lectures for knowledge improvement of students in fifth year of Medicine. It is a crossover intervention study, in which the second group of students of Medical Clinics II course will be allocated by simple randomization in two clusters: watch the recorded lectures given to the first group (intervention) or only attend to the lecture (control).

Pretest and posttest questionnaires will be applied to evaluate the knowledge of both groups. The results will be expressed in frequencies and percentages and Stata 12 will be used for generate summary measures. The scores of pretest and posttest of both groups will be compared to determine which get the best results.

 

Proyecto: Syndromic surveillance using a free smartphone app

Resumen:

Syndromic surveillance is a dynamic process of collecting real time or near real time data about symptom clusters to detect outbreaks that could not otherwise be detected by traditional systems.

Previous studies has been done to evaluate social networking and web search services as possible syndromic surveillance tools. There has been  diverse results.

Smartphone technology has allowed us to create a lot of amazing mobile applications that improve and facilitate life. A good example of this is the Global Positioning System (GPS) that plays a promising role for syndromic surveillance. The use of smartphones is increasing  worldwide and Latin America has an important role in this growth.

The aim of this study is to assess a new syndromic surveillance system based on a new Smartphone application with online medical advice.

We will evaluate the acceptability of the new Smartphone application through a qualitative study of focus groups.
